CHAPTER FOURTEEN

With an organic restoring mask on her hair and a purifying facial mask spread on her mocha skin, Jade paces around the hotel room. Having grown up in a picturesque suburb of Detroit where trees and open space were in abundance, her acclimation to the concrete and noise of New York City was a difficult one. Not that she would admit that to anyone. Forgoing a track and field scholarship to Michigan State to pursue her modeling dream, Jade is well aware of the risks and sacrifices needed to make it in this crazy city. And just when she was about to have her big break, Amandine enters the picture.

Jade continues to pace as she remembers back a few days ago when she first met the world famous Alexandra Pickoski. With her hopes high and “Diva Jade” out in full force, she was surprised by Alexandra’s indifference. Typically when a photographer meets the model he or she will be working with, they want to study them. She screamed at Jade that she had no talent and she wanted her gone. “Diva Jade” put on a tough front, storming off and telling Alexandra to fuck off. However, once alone in her trailer Jade burst into tears.

As Jade does laps around her room and replays the dreadful photo shoot, she still doesn’t understand why she got fired. Alexandra never gave her a chance. But that doesn’t make sense, either. Alexandra had been sent Jade’s portfolio and from what Jade’s agent told her, Alexandra enthusiastically chose her as the lead model. Where did it all go wrong? Why would Alexandra not even look at her? Alexandra couldn’t have had time to review the photos she had taken that morning before firing her. It didn’t make sense.

The hurt and anger building up inside has Jade feeling like she might explode. The walls seem to be closing in on her. She needs to get out of this hotel room; she wants to go home. With her mind made up she walks to the bathroom and gets in the shower, rinsing off the hair and facial masks. Putting on comfortable clothes and tying her
